Recently, the Operation Round-Up Board of Directors at Central Texas Electric Cooperative approved a grant to support Honor Veterans Now, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization based in Fredericksburg.

This organization strives to honor Veterans and their families by helping to eliminate hunger in vulnerable military Veterans.  Their mission is to address food insecurity for veterans who are in need but certain criteria like age or location makes them ineligible for other funding or assistance.

Through Meals for Vets, their flagship program, they focus on providing consistent access to healthy, nutritious meals for financially struggling Veterans 59 years old and younger and their families throughout the entire state of Texas.  Meals for Vets is often able to provide meals for older Veterans that don’t qualify for their local senior food program by funding the delivery of a daily nutritious meal by contracting with local and national meal service providers.

The organization also provides referrals to other Veteran resources to assist with employment, housing, and other food availability.  Since Honor Veterans Now was founded in 2015, they have provided over 225,000 meals to more than 1,000 Veterans in the state of Texas.  Meals for Vets is currently serving 339 Veterans in Texas.

This Operation Round-Up grant is possible because of CTEC members who voluntarily participate.  By having their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the next whole dollar each month, enrolled co-op members have been able to make a difference in the lives of neighbors in their communities.

CTEC members can sign up for Operation Round-Up online here or by calling their local office and one-time monetary contributions are also accepted. All donations are tax-deductible.

It’s an easy, inexpensive way to become part of a great community program through your co-op membership.
