Youth Tour to Washington D.C.

Win a Trip to Washington D.C.!


Three high school students from the Central Texas Electic Co-op service area will be selected to participate in the 54th  Annual Government-in-Action Youth Tour.


Participation is open to high school students that have completed their sophomore year by May 2018.  Students whose parents or guardians are members of CTEC are eligible.  The CTEC electric account must be in the name of the parent or guardian.


All expenses for the tour (except personal items such as souvenirs etc.) will be paid by the Co-op for the three winners of the essay contest.  CTEC winners will join youths from throughout Texas on June 6th in Austin, Texas, and spend the 7th visiting the Governor’s Mansion, the State Capital and the Bob Bullock Museum.  They will depart on June 8th for Washington D.C. and return home on June 15th.  Some of the stops in Washington D.C. include the National Cathedral, Pentagon City Mall, Arlington Cemetery and Wreath Laying Ceremony, Kennedy Center, Mount Vernon, Union Station, Potomac Boat Cruise and Dance, Smithsonian Museums, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Capitol Hill, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, Sunset Parade at Iwo Jima, White House and much more!


Chaperons will be provided by sponsoring Cooperatives.  CTEC will provide transportation to and from Austin, Texas.



Essay of 500 words or less must be submitted in the Fredericksburg CTEC office by 5:00p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018. Please do not put your personal name or school name on the essay.  The topic of this year’s essay is What does "smart grid technology" mean for the future of electricity?”  Winning essays will be selected by independent judges and will be judged on originality (40%), knowledge of topic (30%), composition (10%), neatness (10%), and grammar (10%). 


Two alternates will also be named in the event a winner might be unable to attend the tour.  Additional details, information, and entry forms are available from your local high school, or from either:
